20/5/2007 U12 Athletic 0 - Bedford 1It certainly was a very good game to end the season with – it was just a great shame we were unable to get something out of it. On a glorious day on a bigger than average pitch the crowd were treated to an end-to-end display of good passing football between 2 very evenly matched teams. Bedford probably did just enough to deserve the 1-0 win and it was a goal of good quality that won it so we can have no complaints. Our main flaw today was that we spread ourselves too thinly over the big pitch and tended to hit our through balls too close to the Bedford centre backs. We also have to work on both springing an off-side trap and on beating them as we get regularly flagged off-side but opposing teams never seem to. All that said, our lads played with great energy on a hot day and gave us great entertainment. Nilsen earned M.oM with another solid display at centre back and Messum earned M.I.P for great tackling and imposing runs from the back. Gray also did well at right back ensuring he got to the ball 1st when needed and Tippite had another fine game on the wing drawing admiring comments from opposing team coaches. Both Stiles and Latimer also worked hard and imposed themselves on the game as did the irrepressible Bather but we were unable to breach the Bedford defence. It has been a thoroughly entertaining season and the team continue to be a pleasure to watch. Congratulations to this season’s record holders:- Mead (top Goalscorer) Messum & Bather (most M.I.P awards) Tippite & Nilsen (most strings) and Bather (most M.o.M and consecutive string awards).
There are also some new “All time Records” to celebrate. Bather has matched his 2003 feat by again earning 6 M.o.M awards in a season and has also broken the record for consecutive strings by earning 15 in a row – A great performance! Nilsen & Tippite now share the record for most strings earned in a season with an impressive 20 each.
Here’s looking forward to a well earned break and an even better 2007/2008 season.
Don’t forget the Woodside Presentation evening at Tilsworth Golf Club 36rd June 6.15pm-7.00pm. Dress-code is shirt & tie for the boys.
