16/5/2009 U10 Rovers 2 - Woburn Lions Whirlwinds 0

The Lions had already beaten Woodside twice this season netting 5 goals in each game and so Rovers were desperate to prove that they were better than those previous score lines implied. For the first fifteen minutes Woburn threw everything at Woodside but keeper Noah Heath was on good form and Sam Cook and Ben Crallan defended their socks off. It was all Woburn, front man Joseph Raymen was doing plenty of running but wasn’t seeing much of the ball. In a tactical switch midway through the half defender Blake Lewis found himself in unfamiliar territory playing on the left wing. He was everywhere, making tackles in defence and then surging forward supporting the front men. Rovers found the net shortly before half time; Joe Harley flicked the ball to flying winger Owen Claridge who made no mistake with his firm shot.

In the second half Woburn attacked swiftly but saw their shot ping off the cross bar. Rovers scored again after a mazy run by Mason Coleman down the wing. He crossed to Joe who made no mistake from close range. The last ten minutes needed a huge defensive team effort to keep Woburn out. Winger Luke Williams defended brilliantly heading away countless Woburn corners.

18/4/2009 Cranfield Colts Tigers 1 - U10 Wanderers 3

The match started a very even affair and despite chances at both ends neither team managed to capitalize, as the match progressed the majority of play was limited to the middle of the pitch. As the first half was drawing to a close Jamie found himself in space on the left hand side and his long range effort found the back of the net to give Woodside the advantage going into the second half. The second half started at a high tempo and both teams were battling for every ball five minutes in and after a goal mouth scramble Jack found himself unmarked and found the back of the net to double the lead for Woodside, almost immediately after the re start Cranfield pulled one which set up an exciting final 25 minutes, Woodside continued to create chances but could not extend their lead, Cranfield pressed hard and Woodside had to stay composed at the back, as the match was drawing to a close Jack scored his second to seal the win for Woodside.

Team – Nat Goodlad, Dan Davison, James Wright, Tom Herbert, Luke Orlando, Jack Viera, Jamie Leighton (MOM), James Heggarty, Ross Janes.
