5/4/2009 MK Athletic 3 Woodside Rovers 3

Rovers missed a golden opportunity to relieve their relegation worries against fellow strugglers MK Athletic. On a very large pitch, Rovers took a commanding 3 – 0 lead through well taken goals from Davies (2) and Smith, and the game seemed all but over. However, the recent good form evaporated, and a lack off application and focus in the last 20 minutes allowed Athletic to reduce the deficit and pull level. The midfield of Irons and Lombino were tenacious in their play breaking up many of the midfield passes, and were ably supported by Fidzuk and Mead. The defence struggled with the pace of the Athletic forwards, although Boyes and Bell, did their best to combat the increasing threat. Full backs James and Pascoe both put in good shifts with their usual style and industry. Goalkeeper John Shaw was steady and ever alert. MOM Fosberry produced a workmanlike performance, never giving up and always chasing lost causes. Overall, this was a disappointing performance and a result which Rovers may regret later in the season.

24/5/2009 Scot Youth 2 - U12 Rovers 3

Woodies saved their best performance of the season until last but, were two down at half-time. However, they secured their Div 1 future by blowing away Scot in the second-half with a scintillating display of football. James Harman in his final game as team captain appropriately scored the winning goal with five minutes remaining. Woodies hadn’t deserved to be down at the break but, first-half keeper John Shaw made two great saves to keep Woodies in it. Straight from the restart Tom Boozer fired a great half-volley that drew an equally great save from the keeper. More was to come. Keigan Smith rounded off a storming game finding the net to reduce the arrears. Rhys Davies had caused problems with his long throws and Charlie Mead retrieved one, cut in on his right and fired high into the net. It wasn’t all one way traffic and the defence comprising Fionn Bell, Robert Irons, Lewis Pascoe, Robbie James and the outstanding MoM Luke Boyes held firm. But they were aided brilliantly by Harman, the ever consistent Isaac Claridge and the tireless work of Dominic Lombino. Second-half keeper George Fidczuk needed to make one great save to ensure Woodies deservedly walked away with the points.
